Transportation, as a Plan Element includes all modes of transportation
as well as the surface street network and safety. The Village of Angel Fire maintains ninety
miles of gravel roads. The Village
is divided into three road maintenance districts.
Each district has a road grader and operator assigned to each district
for road maintenance and snow removal. In 2001, the Village of Angel Fire Transit System had 39,878
passenger trips, which for a town of 1,048 people makes it one of New
Mexico’s most successful public transportation systems per capita. In December 2001, the voters of Angel Fire approved a 1/4 cent
gross receipts tax level increase for road improvements. That tax went into effect in July 2002. Angel Fire is also home to a Colfax County Airport. Although the Village surrounds the airport,
the airport proper is not within the Village limits. In terms of elevation, this airport is the highest within in the
State, and the 5th highest in the nation. |
